Michael jackson

Michael Jackson portrait

Michael Joseph Jackson (born August 29, 1958) is an American musician and entertainer whose successful music career and controversial personal life have been at the forefront of pop culture for the last quarter-century.  It is a shame that this incredibly talented, but vulnerable artist should have left himself open to all manner of attacks in such open and innocent fashion. However, his music is a lasting legacy.

Jackson began his musical career at the age of seven as the lead singer of The Jackson 5 and released his first solo recording, Got to Be There in 1971, while remaining a member of the group. He began a full-fledged solo career in 1979 and formally parted with his siblings in 1984. In his solo career, Jackson recorded and co-produced the best-selling album of all time, Thriller, which was named as the world's best-selling album at the 2006 World Music Awards. It has worldwide sales exceeding that of 104 million. Michael Jackson has received thirteen Grammy awards and charted thirteen number-one singles in the United States.

Michael Jackson has just died and a major shock is currently hitting the world after so many years of an amazing presence from such a musical icon. The late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, has just passed away without (yet) many actual explanations or reasons how, and only assumptions could arise based on the paparazzi media frenzy, speculations of the bizarre and eccentric lifestyle, and guesses of what has happened to the long time musical star. This comes as a major celebrity blow, especially with Farrah Fawcett (1947-2009) passing away on the same day after her battle with cancer.
Of course what Michael Jackson has become famous for these days, admitting you are a fan of his is not a good thing. Referring here to those child molestation allegations which brought down his career.
Also, admitting you are a fan of a 49 year old man who talks like a 9 year old girl and has hair and wears make up like a 39 year woman is not cool, I should say I am a fan of his music and not of him.

THE FACTS
Unsealed search warrants reveal that Michael Jackson used skin-bleaching products.

THE SPIN
It’s a question that’s been debated for years and years: Does Michael Jackson dip out to Kim’s Beauty Supply every now and then to scoop up the skin bleaching aisle?
Michael always denied using those products, but warrants from his death investigation prove otherwise.

Via Hip Hop Wired:

Newly unsealed search warrants are providing more information about police findings at the home of Michael Jackson. The search warrants are revealing what many people have speculated for years, that Michael Jackson did use [skin-lightening] creams with a total of 37 tubes of product found.
Before after michael jackson
On November 15, 2006, Michael Jackson received the Diamond Award, for selling over 100 million albums, at the World Music Awards. This was his second public appearance at an awards show since the trial of 2005. Despite substantial publicity prior to the event, he did not perform "Thriller", limiting his performance to "one verse and one chorus" of "We are the World". Coverage of the event noted that Jackson "looked uncomfortable at times" and called the appearance "an unhappy return to the London stage". According to the head of public relations for the World Music Awards (Julius Just), the sound was cut due to a noise curfew. Officials at Earl's Court, the arena where the event was held, have said that this was not the case and that they had "accommodated the show and the show's organisers by obtaining an extension to our licence in order to allow the show to run to eleven o'clock".

Pink Top Ten Singers 2011

Alecia Beth Moore (born September 8, 1979), better known by her stage name, Pink (stylized as P!nk), is an American singer-songwriter and musician. She released her first single "There You Go", on her first album, the R&B-oriented Can't Take Me Home, in 2000 via LaFace Records, which garnered commercial success. Her more pop rock-oriented second studio album, Missundaztood, which began a marked shift in the sound of her music, was released in 2001 and was a huge success worldwide.
Pink released her third album, Try This, in November 2003, which although less successful commercially than her previous release, still managed to sell around 3 million copies and earned her a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for the single "Trouble". Her fourth album, I'm Not Dead, was released in April 2006. The album generated several hit singles, including "Stupid Girls", "U + Ur Hand" and "Who Knew". Both "U + Ur Hand" and "Who Knew" went to #1 on the pop chart. Her fifth album, Funhouse, was released in late October 2008 and was preceded by her first solo number one on the Billboard Hot 100, "So What". The album notched three other Top 20 hits: "Sober", "Please Don't Leave Me" and "Glitter in the Air". On November 15, 2010, she released her first compilation, Greatest Hits... So Far!!!.

According to Billboard, Pink was rated #13 on the list of Artists of the Decadeand #1 Pop Song Artist of the Decade (2000–2009). Following a brief separation in 2003, Pink proposed to Hart in June 2005 during a Mammoth Lakes motocross race by holding up a "Will you marry me?" sign on his pit board. They married in Costa Rica on January 7, 2006.After months of speculation, Pink announced in February 2008 that she and Hart had separated. The video for her 2008 hit "So What", in which Hart appears, deals with her separation and pending divorce. By early 2009, the couple, whose divorce had not yet been finalized, had undergone marriage counseling and was attempting a reconciliation. In February 2010, Pink confirmed that she and Hart were back together, and announced the following November that they were expecting their first child. On June 2, 2011, Pink announced via Twitter that she had given birth to a girl named Willow Sage Hart.

City of the week: New York

All pics taken by me except the ones I’m in

I was lucky enough to go last year. It is a city full of energy, hustle, cool shit, hot people, style and fun.

The main attractions: Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building... etc, were actually my least favourite things about the city. It was much more the invisible than the tangible.

Got to attend the US Open which was a bucket list moment for sure! I saw Venus Williams vs Shahar Peer; Kim Clijsters vs Ana Ivanovic and Rafael Nadal vs Gilles Simon. Legend.... wait for it.... DARY!!!

The hood (obviously not too deep inside) is electric and people are inspired and proud. Got taken to Harlem to eat delicious but extremely fattening food.

I was there over Labor Day weekend and went to Brooklyn to enjoy the Caribbean Parade (it was a celebration of all Caribbean expats and their heritage).

I learnt where the best place for bargain shopping is and I was even taken to a club (again in Brooklyn) where I had sooo much fun!

Empire State of Mind: “New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of, there’s nothing you can’t do. Now you’re in New York. These streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you, let’s hear it for New York!”

Can't wait to go back- not sure when but it's a MUST!

Obsessed with New York City

Che Guevara and Fidel Castro- BEWARE: this post is looooong

So earlier on I had a blog post about Cuba (as my country of the week). In that post I mentioned that I am quite obsessed with the place because of its history and what it means. I am fascinated by the inner workings of both Fidel and Che who, though are very militant and a little crazy, are also heroes and definitely put much thought into their struggle as much as they put reckless abandon in the name of the revolution.

Unfortunately as with most ‘revolutionary heroes’, there is a moment when society at large would prefer a real democracy (as is normally what they fighting in the name of)... But that is usually forgotten once the relevant people are in power.

The difference (for me) with Che and Fidel is that even though they were beyond cray-cray, there was still an element of true patriotism and a real desire to help the people over helping themselves. Che was more than prepared to die (and he did) for the ‘freedom’.

There are many reports that claim Fidel and Che hated each other but I have read many-a biography and studied some of their letters which proves to me that that is far from the truth. They were friends and above all had immense respect for each other.

Even the people of Cuba will tell you that they are amazing and that they did so much for the country. The opinions of them being villains are a mostly western thing. I’m always looking for ways to study them further as individuals and as ‘colleagues’ and friends.

Obsessed with Che Guevara and Fidel Castro

RIP MAMA ALBERTINA SISULU

21 October 1918 - 2 June 2011

Your work and sacrifices for the good of this nation will never be forgotten. It is because of people like you that people like me can fully enjoy the opportunities the world has to offer.

Thank you for showing us strength, compassion, forgiveness and true love. And thank you for being so committed to the struggle.

Thank you. And thank you Walter.

Coral Fashion

The new trend (which will be a hit even beyond winter) is coral clothing and accessories.

This vibrant colour is a hit in Hollywood right now but more than that it brings life to any outfit. Even just a splash can turn an outfit from drab to FAB! And colour blocking works tremendously with coral.

I recently bought divine coral shoes and have seen women rocking it in tops, dresses, accessories and even make up… And it’s sexy in the paler hues as well as the darker ones.

C’est tres chaud.

Obsessed with coral fashion.

Amr Diab Great Song

Amr Abdel Basset Abdel Azeez Diab (born October 11, 1961) is an Egyptian singer and composer of geel music; the contemporary face of Egyptian el-geel pop music, according to World Music. Diab is the best-selling Arab recording artist of all time, according to Let's Go Egypt. He was awarded the World Music Award for Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist four times: 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2009. He has also sold over 50 million albums worldwide. He is currently the top singer in the Arab world, and considered a living legend by many of his fans in the Arab world.
Amr Diab is known as the Father of Mediterranean Music. He has created his own style which is often termed "Mediterranean Music" or "Mediterranean Sound", a blend of Western and Egyptian rhythms.
In The Mediterranean in Music, David Cooper and Kevin Dawe referred to his music as "the new breed of Mediterranean music".
According to author Michael Frishkopf, Amr Diab has produced a new concept of Mediterranean music, especially in his international hit, "Nour El Ain".

In his analysis of The Very Best of Amr Diab album, Victor W. Valdivia of Allmusic said: "His music melded traditional Arabic sounds and textures with Western rhythms and instruments. The mesh was dubbed Mediterranean music, and The Very Best of Amr Diab displays Diab's superb skill in creating it."
According to the BBC, Diab "has ruled the Arab music world, especially Egypt and the Middle East, since the mid '80s, continually breaking sales records".
Diab's fame in the music industry has led him to experiment with other forms of media, such as film. Amr played himself in his first film, El Afareet, which was released in 1989. The film also starred Madiha Kamel. His second film Ice Cream in Gleam (Ays Krim fi Glym), the 1992 movie in which Diab starred, was chosen as one of the best five Egyptian musical films by the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television. The film was also featured in the UCLA Film and Television Archive's new program "Music on the Nile: Fifty Years of Egyptian Musical Films" at James Bridges Theater, UCLA, April 6, 8 and 10. David Chute of the Los Angeles Weekly termed the film "observant" and "a big leap". His third movie was released in 1993, and was named Deahk We La'ab (Laughter and Fun). The film premiered in the Egyptian Film Festival in 1993. Amr played alongside international Egyptian movie star Omar Sharif (Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago) and Yousra in the movie. Overall, Diab did not experience the same level of success in film that he had with his music career. Since 1993, Diab has focused on his singing career.
